Research on Armenian Architecture (RAA), USA will be hosting a lecture and book launch by the author on Monday, October 26, 2026, 6:30 pm, at the Armenian Society of Los Angeles. The event will be held in the Library Hall on the 3rd floor, 117 S Louise St, Glendale, CA 91205.
We are excited to introduce a new book, Lost Sacred Geometries: Resurrecting the Architectural Language of Medieval Armenian Churches (Firefly Books, 2026), by Setrak Taner Isnar, a licensed architect from Toronto, Canada. Isnar’s book reveals a sophisticated system of sacred geometries that was used in medieval Armenian churches for 1300 years, a system that is unknown to scholars of today.
Medieval Armenian architecture today is in crisis. Governments adjacent and adversarial to Armenia are implementing state policies that will erase the historical and religious Armenian heritage throughout the region. The Armenian cultural heritage in the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic has already been completely erased. Hundreds of historical Armenian sites in Nagorno Karabagh are in grave danger, as Adam T. Smith, a professor of anthropology from Cornell University and co-director of Caucasus Heritage Watch, testified in 2024 during the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission.
This book showcases layers of the faith, beauty and sophistication of medieval Armenian architecture, demonstrating its value as cultural heritage for not only the Armenian nation but all of humanity. When Western society realizes the significance of this heritage, further attempts to destroy it can be stopped.
This extraordinary book needs to be championed, and we hope you and your organization will help in this effort.
