Research on Armenian Architecture (RAA) was established in 1969 in Aachen, Germany, by Dr. Armen Hakhnazarian, a former professor at the University of Aachen.

In 1991, after Armenia gained its independence, RAA Armenia was formed and registered as a non-profit and non-governmental organization (NGO) in Yerevan, Armenia. In 2010 RAA/Armenia changed its status to a Foundation.

In 1996, RAA/USA began its activities and registered as a non-profit 501(C)3 corporation in California, USA.
